Ashlee angers magazine readers

The editor of Marie Claire magazine has listened to readers of the mag in their outrage against Ashlee Simpson. Hundreds of letters were sent in after Simpson's cover story on body image was published in July, claiming hypocrisy since the singer recently underwent plastic surgery for a new nose. "She was quoting chapter and verse about how crucial it is to love yourself as you are, etc.," the Marie Claire editor wrote in an expanded letters section in the mag's September issue. "We're dazed and confused - and disappointed - by her choice too!" In her cover story, Simpson helped a group of teenage girls in LA create a mural celebrating female empowerment. "Everyone is made differently," Simpson said in her interview, "and that's what makes us beautiful and unique. I want girls to look in the mirror and feel confident." Among the letters sent in protest, readers said things like, "The article...was a joke, right?" and "You couldn't have picked a worse role model!" When asked for comment, Simpson's rep simply said, "I'm sorry the new editor is using Ashlee to get publicity for her magazine."
